Florence: The City of Stone

Florence, known locally as Firenze, has been described as a city of stone because of it's many stone buildings, stone streets and walkways, and the many artists who work with stone who have lived and worked here through the centuries.

No matter when you plan to visit the city you will find much to do. The city of Florence is home to many churches, museums, and festivals. The Artisan Chocolate Fair is one of the city's yummiest fests. Chocolatiers from all over Tuscany set up shop on the streets of Florence to show off their chocolate making abilities. Visitors will see that there is an art to making and decorating chocolate. Performing arts, games, and music are offered during the festival weekend.

Noel Noel is one of Italy's most popular Christmas fests. A fair is held in December at the Stazione Leopolda with live entertainment and many activities for both adults and children. The festival is a fantastic way to get into the holiday spirit.

One of Florence's most unique festivals is the river to River festival. This fest celebrates Indian film and pays homage the great and respected works coming out of Bollywood. The festival honors actors, films, directors, writers, and others involved in the filmmaking process. Although not as large as the film festival in Cannes, the prestige for lovers of Indian film is comparable.

Visitors to Florence will find much to do. The city has held onto its old world charm and stone building and winding stone streets will give one the feel of stepping back in time.
